Criteria for Assignment 1
In assessing your assignments we will consider the following categories: Presentation Are academic conventions properly used (e.g. for your bibliography)? How clearly is the developing essay signposted (e.g. through use of headings or paragraphs)? In general is the essay well organized, starting with a clear introduction and reaching an explicit and appropriate conclusion? Understanding How clearly have you demonstrated an understanding of the main concepts you are dealing with? Are you able to apply the main concepts e.g. by discussing sensibly their relevance to materials provided? Have you been able to show evidence of wider reading and an ability to bring in other people’s perspectives? Argument Are you able to bring out your own point of view in a reasoned and thoughtful way? Can you provide careful justification for your own viewpoint? Can you say how your own perspective is different from other perspectives that you discuss? (This doesn’t mean you have to show that your argument is unique!)
