我们在阅读关于珠峰探险的文章的过程中,发现了很多问题,他在极端恶劣的天气中,取舍了很多,然后我们在模拟中遇到了很多障碍,如风暴雪崩等物理条件,都会影响我们爬珠峰。
After reading the article concerning the Everest Mountain expedition, we have identified lots of mistakes that Scott Fischer and Rob Hall made in the case. However, after our personal simulation, we realized that many inevitable obstacles, such as the storms, avalanches and other physical conditions, highly affected our Mount Everest climbing.
Not driven by the commercial purpose for which the team climbed Mount Everest in 1996, we still had our personal goals dictated by our jobs and responsibilities. Therefore, we were eager to reach the summit regardless of any physical condition, supply and surrounding. Unfortunately, two of our teammates were rescued in the sixth round. It was quite similar to the case in 1996. A lack of efficient communication led Scott and Rob to ignore others’advice and underestimate the real situation. We only focused on what we pursued and gave the priority to our benefits over the team’s goal. During round 4-6, the temperature decreased with heavy wind. We felt weak and slowed down the hiking speed. Actually we could have thought over our purpose and decided whether to climb to the summit. However, we decided it straightforward without any thorough consideration.
在人际交往中,彼此信任是非常重要的,是一个团队的价值观念,是团队取得好的绩效的重要因素,所有的队员都在同一条船上。彼此相互关心,相互帮助,才能共同取得成功。
Psychological safety, a sense of interpersonal trust and of being valued in a work team, is an important determinant for team performances. It requires teammates’interdependence to create an authentic relationship for discretionary sharing of information. Team members should trust each other and place a continual emphasis on the spirit of sharing mutual concerns on the same boat. Psychological safety helps the team to consolidate the momentum in achieving a goal. Teammates will attach their personal goals to the organizational objective which they should achieve persistently without worry and hesitation. This process will dramatically decrease the conflicts and save time for an effective accomplishment. Every team member should also have a close cooperation with each other. As usual in our corporation, teammates are encouraged to have meetings on a regular basis. Through the discussion, they will know more about others’ perspectives and learn from each other. The barriers inside their inner heart will be eliminated with ease. And also, we could frequently bring teammates together for fun, in order to promote their internal communication while creating a harmonious and liberal atmosphere.
From the Mount Everest case and simulation, we primarily realize communication is the key to success. How to deliver an effective communication within team is an everlasting question for leaders. In the 1996 Mount Everest case, conquering Everest on one’s own is different from guiding a commercial expedition team to reach the summit. Rob and Scott, as leaders of the expedition team, failed to realize the importance of communication within team. The team spirit had not been well established due to the leaders’ failure to deliver a good communication with other climbers such that the team members lacked a sense of psychological safety. Besides, Rob and Scott failed to adopt good advice from a senior guide, Mr. Anatoli Boukreev. Meanwhile, Scott ordered oxygen for use only at higher altitudes, but his team members failed to follow up. It proved a fact that lacking effective
